Window tinting is one of the more permanent changes you can make to a car, and the quality of the job matters. A little preparation before you book saves you from disappointment later. Here are the questions worth asking any tinting installer, including us.
The eight questions
- What exactly does the price cover? Ask which windows are included and whether the price is for the whole car. Prices that sound similar can cover very different amounts of work.
- What do I want from the tint? More privacy, less heat, more UV protection, or all three? Knowing your priority helps your installer advise you. See window tint benefits.
- What rules apply to how dark each window can be? There are limits on how dark vehicle windows may be on public roads, and they can differ by window. Check what applies before you choose a darkness.
- Is it right for my vehicle? Make, model and year can change the job. Tell your installer exactly what you drive.
- How long will it take? Ask for an estimate, and when the car will be available to you again.
- What aftercare is needed? New film needs time to settle. Ask how long to wait before rolling the windows down, and how to clean it.
- Where is the work done? Some installers work from a workshop, and some come to you. Ace is mobile.
- Can you confirm everything before I commit? A good installer confirms the price, what is covered and the timing in writing, such as on WhatsApp.
Red flags
- A very low price with no explanation of what it covers
- No clear answer on the rules for window darkness
- A quote given without asking what vehicle you have
- Pressure to decide on the spot
- No clear aftercare advice
Window tinting with Ace
Our window tinting is R1,500 and gives you privacy, UV protection and a cooler interior. Because vehicles differ, we ask you to message us your car’s make, model and year on WhatsApp so we can confirm exactly what that covers for your vehicle before you commit.
It is also a good idea to think about what else the car needs. If the inside is looking tired, a full valet detail resets the interior and exterior, and our guide on protecting your car from the sun covers the rest of the picture.
How to compare two tinting quotes
- Ask both installers to list exactly what is included.
- Compare like with like: the same windows, the same vehicle.
- Ask about timing and aftercare for each.
- Do not choose on the lowest price alone. A poor job can show up as bubbles, peeling or uneven edges.
What to do before your appointment
- Tell the installer if your windows already have film on them.
- Know what you want: privacy, heat reduction, UV protection or all three.
- Decide where the car will be, and make sure it is easy to reach.
- Have your questions ready, and write down the answers.
Why quality matters
Tint is applied to the inside of your windows and is meant to last, so the quality of the film and of the installation shows for years. Clean edges, no bubbles and an even finish are what good work looks like. Ask what you should expect, and ask to be told in writing what is covered.
After you tint
Look after the film as your installer advises, and read our guide to window tint benefits for what to expect from it. If the rest of the car needs attention too, the full valet detail resets the interior and exterior.
A note on honesty
A good installer will tell you what tint can and cannot do. It reduces heat and UV and adds privacy, but it does not make the car cold and it does not make windows unbreakable. Be wary of anyone who promises more than that.
Take your time with these. Tint is worth getting right the first time, and a good installer will be glad you asked.
